What’s the difference between loving yourself and trying too hard?
Well the difference is how it feels.
The feeling between loving yourself as you are and trying hard to change is very different.
You know you’re trying too hard because you will feel miserable 😭 inside. Anxious perhaps. Maybe you’re getting sick. Can’t sleep. Feeling stressed. You may feel like you aren’t good enough. You’re not trying hard enough. And you’re not making any progress.
Loving yourself means being patient with yourself. Talking to yourself in a way that’s caring and understanding. There’s no push… just self acceptance.
Does self acceptance mean that you can’t look and feel your best.
No, not at all.
On the contrary it’s about taking good care of yourself and your needs.
When things feel difficult, frustrated and like you’re trying too hard… it’s time to take a step back.
Ask yourself often what it is that you need right now… here are some examples:
What do I need right now?
Do I need to rest?
Do I need to do something fun with someone I love?
Do I need to put healthier food into my body?
Do I need to go for a walk or do some exercises?
Do I need to get rid of this toxic person from my life?
Do I need to tidy up my living space?
Asking yourself everyday exactly what it is that you need is so important for self care.
